'Away Being' is a pop up exhibition curated by collaborative artist Jan Bee Brown with the Thrive Archive. The photography of Ian Paterson and John Maher led Jan to commission award winning musician Mike Vass to compose a brand new Scottish concerto as a response to their images of abandoned Hebridean croft houses. This original piece will be played live on the 4th by the Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin Big Band. The exhibition will represent an eclectic group of artists including Jan herself, Catriona Taylor, Liz Skulina and Mettje Hunneman.

'Deafening Echoes', 1st April - 8th May 2013, Rothes Halls, Glenrothes, Fife
'Deafening Echoes' is a series of photographs documenting and reflecting on the abandonment of croft houses throughout the Western Isles in the second half of the last century. These relinquished family homes lie scattered the length of the Outer Hebrides like graves, as synonymous with these islands as the vast sandy beaches, coastal machair and prehistoric standing stones. By photographing these living spaces I hope to create some kind of connection with the people who lived there and the lives they had.
